Dylan currently lives in the Children’s Welfare Institue in Luoyang City. Luoyang is in the Henan Province, which is just west of the Province Lainey came from, Anhui. By train you can get from Lainey’s home city (Bengbu) to Dylan’s home city in ~ 7 hours, traveling just short of 400 miles. That’s pretty cool.

Luoyang is in the central plain region of China, located in one of the poorer provinces in the country. The name comes from where the city is located, on the north side (“yang”) of the Luo River. Most of Luoyang has long been looked upon as sacred ground to the Chinese. The area where the Luo and Yi rivers intersect is considered the geographical center of China, and it is home to China’s first Buddhist temple. It is a densely populated city as well, with over 6.5 million residents in ~ 1,000 square mile area. To put that into perspective, Luoyang City is roughly twice size as Jacksonville, FL . . . with almost nine times the number of people.

Dylan’s current home has 216 people on staff, taking care of 621 orphaned and / or disabled children. They estimate that Luoyang City has a total of almost 3000 orphans . . . unfortunately they simply don’t have the facilities or the ability to take care of them all.
