Soccer?

Of all the sports that our big kids ever tried, soccer was never one of them.

But, it’s the sport that Dylan has had his heart set on for a few years now, so he’s giving it a shot.

This Y league is just two short months long.  We think it will give him a good taste of the sport to see if he really wants to play it longer term.

As any good soccer mom, I went out yesterday and bought 5 camp chairs.

Today was their first game.

He’s on team Mexico.

He’s had 3 practices so far.

He loved playing goalie.  Got a few great blocks, let a few balls sneak by him.

It’s a learning process.

He’s definitely scrappy, and not afraid to get in the middle of it all.

I can’t say yet that I loved watching soccer more than, say, baseball or basketball.  We’ll see.  Another sport he’d like to try is baseball.  I’m psyched that.

But, for now, I’m a happy soccer mom, cheering my little dude on from the comfort of my camp chair on the sidelines.

Go Mexico!

I am just amazed by Dylan all the time. He is not handicapped or different from any kid wanting to play sports. He does it with no fear which means that you and Randy have done a great job making him feel like he can do anything he wants to do. Glad you all support him like you do.

He’s got his eyes on that ball every minute…looks like he enjoys it, especially the competition part of it. Like you said, we’ll see. He’ll eventually find the sport he really likes, just like Abbey did when she discovered volleyball. Really good photos of the action! Go Dylan…we’re also pulling for you, buddy!!

Soccer has gained so many fans in recent years and it is a great sport for active kids. Unlike baseball where they just stand around for hours and hours (B-O-R-I-N-G), soccer is an action game. I hope Dylan is able to keep up. With his determination, that probably won’t be a problem. Watching the game doesn’t mean you have to know the rules. Fans can enjoy it without knowing the rules. I am glad you all are giving him a chance to try it since it is something he really wants to do.
