{"id":801,"date":"2010-03-05T12:02:31","date_gmt":"2010-03-05T16:02:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.handsful.com\/?p=801"},"modified":"2010-03-05T14:06:21","modified_gmt":"2010-03-05T18:06:21","slug":"wed-like-you-to-meet-someone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.handsful.com\/wordpress\/archives\/801","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;d like you to meet someone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"null\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4070\/4405036119_01496352aa.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"381\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>taken around age 1<\/p>\n<p>Dang Yu Hai&#8230;our son!\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, we&#8217;re headed back to China for just one more.\u00c2\u00a0 One more child to love, one more sibling for the &#8220;crew&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Ever since adopting Lainey, we&#8217;ve kept our minds and hearts open to going back.\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes we felt a clear sense of going back, and other times we felt the opposite.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of the time, Randy&#8217;s and my feelings didn&#8217;t match.\u00c2\u00a0 I think maybe God was working on us separately :)<\/p>\n<p>We were like minded about several things, however.\u00c2\u00a0 If we did go back, it would be for a son.\u00c2\u00a0 And, we were both feeling very comfortable with the special need of limb difference &#8211; this can mean additional digits, missing limbs, etc.\u00c2\u00a0 We also wanted him only slightly younger than Lainey (Randy was fine with slightly older).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"null\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4041\/4405037501_accbb5f144.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>taken at age 21 months<\/p>\n<p>On December 23rd, I was &#8220;browsing&#8221; the files on the CCAI Waiting Child website.\u00c2\u00a0 When our agency receives files from China, they then match the children&#8217;s files with waiting parents who have indicated on their medical checklist that they&#8217;d like\u00c2\u00a0 a child of this gender\/age\/special need.\u00c2\u00a0 The files that do not match anyone&#8217;s checklist\u00c2\u00a0are posted on CCAI&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"null\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4004\/4405801182_6f08663411.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"348\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A photo caught my eye, so I clicked on the link to read more.\u00c2\u00a0 I noticed it was a boy (the photo had him in a pink shirt, so I wasn&#8217;t sure at first!), noticed he was born in 2007, and saw that\u00c2\u00a0 he had a limb difference.\u00c2\u00a0 I started an email to send to the waiting child department, asking if we could be put on the list to see his file (there are usually others in front of you).\u00c2\u00a0 While I was reading the email, I looked at his actual birthdate.\u00c2\u00a0 July 4, 2007.\u00c2\u00a0 One year to the DAY younger than Lainey.\u00c2\u00a0 Wow.<\/p>\n<p>The next few days were filled with lots of prayer, thought, and discussion with our kids.\u00c2\u00a0 The kids were totally on board right away, rolling their eyes at us as we continued to ponder and pray.\u00c2\u00a0 Eventually, we knew.\u00c2\u00a0 He was ours, we had to go get him.<\/p>\n<p>So, the major details are:<\/p>\n<p>Dang (surname)\u00c2\u00a0Yu (&#8220;of&#8221; or &#8220;for&#8221;) \u00c2\u00a0Hai (&#8220;sea&#8221;)\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; birthdate 7\/4\/07 &#8211; residing in the Luoyang Children&#8217;s Welfare Institute in Luoyang, Henan province.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s interesting that this province is directly beside Anui, where Lainey was born.\u00c2\u00a0 He is missing the lower 2 bones (fibula and tibia) in his left leg and he left foot is malformed.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve consulted with a national adoption doctor, our pediatrician, and local pediatric orthopedist.\u00c2\u00a0 All tell us he&#8217;ll need an amputation of that leg &#8211; either above or below knee (which, we have no idea at this point if he HAS a knee) &#8211; and then will be fitted with a prosthetic leg.\u00c2\u00a0 Other than periodic adjustments and regular replacements of the leg as he grows, he&#8217;ll be &#8220;good to go&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re busy working on our dossier now, and &#8220;should&#8221; travel within a year &#8211; maybe more, hopefully less.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re still working on what his new name will be. :)\u00c2\u00a0 Lainey already knows him as Yu Hai, she talks about him all the time.\u00c2\u00a0 This year of waiting will be hard on all of us.\u00c2\u00a0 But, for now, we&#8217;re celebrating and looking forward to that next trip to China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>taken around age 1 Dang Yu Hai&#8230;our son!\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, we&#8217;re headed back to China for just one more.\u00c2\u00a0 One more child to love, one more sibling for the &#8220;crew&#8221;.
