<\/a>Monday’s assignment…climb Grandfather Mountain.\u00c2\u00a0 Or, at least do some hiking.\u00c2\u00a0 We were keeping our options open.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

After seeing the otters, deer, and bears at the nature park, we headed to the Mile High swinging bridge – here they are looking over the edge at the parking lot.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was SO windy!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This picture freaks me out.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

After the bridge, we headed to the trails.\u00c2\u00a0 Here they are deciding which way to go at a fork in the trail.\u00c2\u00a0 We chose the more difficult trail, with ropes and ladders.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh goody.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here’s a rope…they were very helpful with the steep, slippery spots.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

And, here is a ladder.\u00c2\u00a0 Very steep.\u00c2\u00a0 Lainey loved riding in the backpack, never complained or fussed about being scared at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Randy was a brute, carrying her the whole time.\u00c2\u00a0 He’s our hero.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

The last series of ladders, that took us to the top of McRae’s Peak.\u00c2\u00a0 See the ladder at the top?\u00c2\u00a0 That’s the one that I totally FROZE on back in ’94.\u00c2\u00a0 I eventually made it back then.\u00c2\u00a0 This time?\u00c2\u00a0 I chose to only climb that 1st ladder.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

I’m standing at the top of the first ladder, taking a pic of the kids who easily made it to the top.\u00c2\u00a0 Yea, kids!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nHere is Randy, climbing up the 1st ladder.\u00c2\u00a0 I told Randy that this picture would give the grandparents a major shock.\u00c2\u00a0 Everyone still with us??\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We made the logical decision to both come down from the 1st ladder (which I totally FROZE on for a moment – coming down is SO much scarier than going up!).\u00c2\u00a0 Then, I stayed with Lainey while Randy climbed up to join the kids on the TOP.\u00c2\u00a0 They were SO excited to make it so far and they said the views were spectacular.\u00c2\u00a0 While we waited, Lainey decided to leave a bit of herself on Grandfather Mountain.\u00c2\u00a0 No pics of that.\u00c2\u00a0 heh heh…<\/p>\n

Time to come down, down, down…<\/p>\n

All total, we spent almost 3 hours on Grandfather Mountain, just the hiking \/ climbing part.\u00c2\u00a0 Randy’s shoulders and back were sore and my knees were toast.\u00c2\u00a0 The kids were fine.\u00c2\u00a0 So, why did they get to end their day doing this??<\/p>\n
