{"id":2747,"date":"2013-10-18T15:40:13","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T19:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.handsful.com\/?p=2747"},"modified":"2013-10-18T15:56:46","modified_gmt":"2013-10-18T19:56:46","slug":"cats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.handsful.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2747","title":{"rendered":"Cats"},"content":{"rendered":"<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Yes, we&#8217;re still surprised we have cats, too. \u00c2\u00a0We&#8217;re NOT cat people. \u00c2\u00a0We never have been. \u00c2\u00a0Several of us are allergic to them, after all.<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>But, living out here in these wide open spaces made us think having an outdoor cat would be&#8230;.appropriate. \u00c2\u00a0A barn cat, per say. \u00c2\u00a0He would wander around our property, pouncing on bugs and tiny varmints&#8230;earning his keep.<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>So, we went to the local pet store where a foster\/adopt animal group was set and told them what we were looking for. \u00c2\u00a0As we talked, it became clear that having two cats would be ideal. \u00c2\u00a0They could keep each other company.<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>Good grief, were we really doing this?<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>We went back about a week later, when they had a bunch of their available cats on &#8220;display&#8221;. \u00c2\u00a0They had a pair of orange tabbys that had been in the same foster home, so they were buds. \u00c2\u00a0They were each just shy of a year old (give or take their best guess), and seemed pretty even-tempered.<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>So, we took them home. \u00c2\u00a0The people with the group were so happy that Professor (found by a professor at a local college) and Miracle (attacked by a dog as a kitten, and survived) were being adopted together. \u00c2\u00a0Professor became Chipper (after our fav baseball player, Chipper Jones) and Chili (Marley&#8217;s choice).<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>We kept them in our downstairs garage while they got used to their new people and place. \u00c2\u00a0They were very skittish about everything. \u00c2\u00a0They hated being outside. \u00c2\u00a0They ran from us. \u00c2\u00a0It wasn&#8217;t looking too promising.<\/p>\n<a href=\"\" title=\"\" rel=\"\" class=\"flickr-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm.static.flickr.com\/\/_.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" title=\"\" longdesc=\"\" \/><\/a>\n<p>But, we gave it time and little by little, they became our outdoor cats. \u00c2\u00a0They now love it here&#8230;they&#8217;ve each found their favorite outdoor hang-out spots, and Chipper especially loves to roam in the woods. \u00c2\u00a0So far, they&#8217;ve left us three&#8221;gifts&#8221;&#8230;in the form of a dead mouse and 2 dead moles. (earning their keep, remember?) \u00c2\u00a0They come to us now when we call them, but only when they want to. \u00c2\u00a0They ARE cats. \u00c2\u00a0It helps a lot if we have treats.<\/p>\n<p>Even though we NEVER saw ourselves having cats, we&#8217;re really enjoying our new family members. \u00c2\u00a0And, I think they like their new digs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, we&#8217;re still surprised we have cats, too. \u00c2\u00a0We&#8217;re NOT cat people. \u00c2\u00a0We never have been. \u00c2\u00a0Several of us are allergic to them, after all.
