She’s here!\u00c2\u00a0 We are truly blessed, and so thankful to our God for Lainey.\u00c2\u00a0 Here is how this morning unfolded…<\/p>\n

We left the hotel about 9:15, arriving at the CCAA offices about 9:35.\u00c2\u00a0 We unloaded and stepped into the very cold (they don’t heat the buildings much at all) lobby and stood, waiting for the elevator.\u00c2\u00a0 Suddenly, our guide announces “here is the baby from Bengbu”.\u00c2\u00a0 What?\u00c2\u00a0 We turn to look at the door and there they are…a\u00c2\u00a0 couple of women and girls and a nanny holding a very bundled up Lainey.\u00c2\u00a0 Randy starts scrambling for his camera and thankfully, another dad in our group takes pictures for us.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lainey with one of her nannies, Song.\u00c2\u00a0 She’s telling Lainey “mama” “baba” and I’m holding her hand.<\/p>\n

We all load onto the elevator…how weird it felt to be in the same elevator as our daughter that we just met and not be holding her!\u00c2\u00a0 We go to the office where all the other families (there were 5 total) were meeting their daughters.\u00c2\u00a0 We put our things down and then walk up to Song and Lainey.\u00c2\u00a0 After a few minutes of Song telling her it’s okay and nudging her towards me, the hand-off is made.<\/p>\n

Baba gets a turn, too.\u00c2\u00a0 Notice the very tight lipped expression?\u00c2\u00a0 She kept it the whole time in the office.<\/p>\n

Forever Family<\/p>\n

Prior to this picture, the nanny had come up and given Lainey a small piece of hard candy (yep, hard candy for a 19 month old?) and she kept it sitting in her mouth the whole time, not sucking it,\u00c2\u00a0just drooling candy juice :)<\/p>\n

After a few minutes and a diaper change, we were all back in the van and on the way back to the hotel.<\/p>\n

I gave her this ball on the van, and she\u00c2\u00a0held it very tightly.\u00c2\u00a0 She still has the candy in her mouth.\u00c2\u00a0 A few minutes later, she decides to take the candy out with her fingers so I grab it gently with a tissue.\u00c2\u00a0 She didn’t like this idea of mine, and she started to softly cry, so we gave her a Gerber puff.\u00c2\u00a0 She again, just held it in her mouth and whimpered a little for the rest of the ride home, once or twice putting her head on my shoulder.\u00c2\u00a0 Loved that.\u00c2\u00a0 She’s wearing Abbey’s old winter hat.<\/p>\n

Back in the hotel room, still clutching that ball.\u00c2\u00a0 Notice her mouth isn’t clenched so tightly here.<\/p>\n

We took off her jacket (her red outfit has the 2008 Beijing Olympic figures on it) and gave her a phone with lights and sounds.\u00c2\u00a0 It instantly became her favorite, and she began to become so much more relaxed and comfortable.\u00c2\u00a0 I go to our guide’s room to do a bit of paperwork and leave daddy in charge.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, after I take a few pics of them together.<\/p>\n

I think she likes it!\u00c2\u00a0 She savored it, taking very, very tiny bites around the edges and finally giving in to putting the last crumb in.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

Very first reading of Pat the Bunny!\u00c2\u00a0 The guide has told us to keep our room fairly warm, because she’s so used to being bundled up.\u00c2\u00a0 Randy, therefore, is sweating.\u00c2\u00a0 We’ll have to find a happy medium there!<\/p>\n

She’s becoming even more comfortable, and starts taking some walks around the room.\u00c2\u00a0 Notice the split pants?\u00c2\u00a0 These are very common in China for all babies\/toddlers…usually there are no undies or diaper underneath so the child can just squat and go when needed.<\/p>\n

First meal with mama.\u00c2\u00a0 Our guide helped us order her lunch…rice and egg.\u00c2\u00a0 The rice was plain, but the egg looked like a solid scrambled piece, sort of like custard, heavily soaked in soy sauce.\u00c2\u00a0 Randy tried it and wasn’t impressed.\u00c2\u00a0 She, however, loved it.\u00c2\u00a0 She’s taking water from a special bottle that we have to basically squirt into her mouth (since she can’t suck with her cleft).\u00c2\u00a0 Notice the ice-breaking phone is right there.<\/p>\n

Tummy full…time for a nap.\u00c2\u00a0 She went down easily, no fussing.\u00c2\u00a0 Just laid where we put her and eventually closed her eyes.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

It’s 2:20 here and she’s been asleep for an hour.\u00c2\u00a0 The pediatrician comes to see her at 3:30 to give her a quick check up.\u00c2\u00a0 We hear some congestion, so we’ll see what the doctor says.\u00c2\u00a0 The rest of our day is free, to continue getting to know Miss Lainey.\u00c2\u00a0 We’re calling her what the orphanage called her, QingQing, for now and will slowly add Lainey as the days go by.\u00c2\u00a0 We had envisioned all the different ways this day could go, and I don’t think ANY of them went this well.\u00c2\u00a0 Lainey is taking food from us, playing with her toys, making eye contact, and went to sleep very easily.<\/p>\n
