{"id":1683,"date":"2011-05-22T15:25:52","date_gmt":"2011-05-22T19:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.handsful.com\/?p=1683"},"modified":"2011-05-22T15:25:52","modified_gmt":"2011-05-22T19:25:52","slug":"first-prom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.handsful.com\/wordpress\/archives\/1683","title":{"rendered":"First Prom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"flickr-image aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_2763\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/70803758@N00\/5747765302\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5064\/5747765302_7b724c2c3a.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2763\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>People ask us all the time, when they find out we homeschool&#8230;how will we make up for all the things they&#8217;ll miss not going to traditional school? \u00c2\u00a0My question back to them is usually &#8211; what will they miss?<\/p>\n<p>Case in point. \u00c2\u00a0Abbey went to her first prom last night. \u00c2\u00a0A prom designed especially for homeschooled kids here in the Lake Norman area. \u00c2\u00a0She decided she wanted to go, not having the usual &#8220;prom date&#8221; and not even sure whether or not she&#8217;d know anyone there. \u00c2\u00a0Were YOU that confident at 15? \u00c2\u00a0I know I wasn&#8217;t. \u00c2\u00a0Abbey is. \u00c2\u00a0We&#8217;re so very thankful.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"flickr-image aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_2760\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/70803758@N00\/5747211551\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2624\/5747211551_c3a84c9ffe.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2760\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Did she see people she knew? \u00c2\u00a0Yes, she did. \u00c2\u00a0Did she meet new friends? \u00c2\u00a0Yep. \u00c2\u00a0Did she have fun. \u00c2\u00a0MOST definitely. \u00c2\u00a0Said it was the best dance yet. \u00c2\u00a0(She&#8217;s been to 2 other homeschool dances&#8230;so far)<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"flickr-image aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_2758\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/70803758@N00\/5747758864\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2029\/5747758864_63800c5679.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2758\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Assuming all of our kids make it to at least 2 of their proms in high school, we&#8217;re looking at 10 more proms to go. \u00c2\u00a0At least. \u00c2\u00a0Is there a budget category for that?<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"flickr-image aligncenter\" title=\"DSC_2768\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/70803758@N00\/5747770518\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5147\/5747770518_22b96694b3.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_2768\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Love you, Abbey girl&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People ask us all the time, when they find out we homeschool&#8230;how will we make up for all the things they&#8217;ll miss not going to traditional school? \u00c2\u00a0My question back to them is usually &#8211; what will they miss?
